Kingfisher is
a stylish
hotel and restaurant
,
beautifully located on the
golden,
crescent
-
shaped beach of Unawatuna, on the southern coast of Sri
Lanka.
The restaurant
was begun by Dumind
a Matarage in the late 1990s; part of
the magic of this unique beach spot, is that it has remained a small,
family run business. This adds to the laid back, friendly and atmospheric
feel. The name was coined, as originally
mangrove trees grew at the farend of the beach, close to the Buddhist temple, and these would attract
kingfisher birds
.
Sadly, Unawatuna witnessed widespread destruction following the 2004
Boxing Day tsunami. At
this time, Duminda and his partner
, Christina,
worked together to re-build
the restaurant from scratch.
Today, Kingfisher is the hottest,
most sought after
address in town. A few
days stay in this
beachside oasis
will give
you many
joyful
memories to
take home
and definitely make you nostalgic for another visit. Here's
why:
All of this equates to the most unforgettable beach holiday in a chilled and sociable setting, on the shores of the Indian Ocean. The Kingfisher team look forward to welcoming you to enjoy the best of Sri Lankan sun, sea and relaxation.
